BROKEN SPHERES

'Broken Spheres' is a collection of songs recorded and rendered during what has been a most challenging but incredibly significant time for humanity. Presented to you in a fully immersive, virtual 360 environment; this is your chance to ‘pop’ and ‘peer’ into someone else’s creative ’bubble’, and at the same time - with hope - you will inflate and float of somewhere in your own.

You can either watch on your desktop/laptop and use your mouse to navigate around the sphere, or you can watch in VR (if you have some goggles) on your phone. You can also watch it without VR goggles or cardboard with a phone or large oblong-like device and move the device around in your hands. I also recommend watching the 360 performance in at least 1444HD or above for a more realistic experience.

Oh and wear headphones if you can!

Thanks for watching.

Artist Briefing

2020 (Urgh) gave me a rare opportunity to spend some time deep-diving into sound-based research and some well-needed space to think about how I could develop my own creative practice further.  I got all excited about an idea and applied to the Arts Council for support, unexpectedly I received some funding to make it happen.

Music transcends isolation; it overcomes loneliness, boredom, worry and fear and enables us to connect with our inner selves, each other and the Universe on a much deeper level.

The Idea

I want to invite you, the artist to perform one song live, and for it to be recorded and filmed in 360 degrees.  I will be using a special funky camera and 3D ‘ambisonic’ microphone to capture your performance.

You can either write a new song, or sing one that you already have in your extensive repertoire, or perhaps we could collaborate on a song together…

I would like to; either come to a location of your choosing (for example your house or garden shed) or we could arrange to use a separate unique location that would look particularly interesting on camera?! Or we could just record it back at the studio, however, I feel like the location for the recording is key to this thing working well!

I aim to present the collection of  ‘songs in isolation’ to the whole world via the interweb (YouTube/Vimeo) in full 4k 360 degree video, and will distribute little VR viewing glasses to a mass of people so that they can fully immerse themselves in your performance and fully appreciate the music in your space with you. It will be like they are there with you.

THE REALLY COOL YOUTUBE VIDEO

And So

I would like to use your song as part of a concept album for which I will also be contributing as composer and producer. The album will be released on Spotify and all good streamy doo-dahs.

I intend to create a web-based platform for artists and audience members to connect with each other, share ideas and collaborate.

Timescale

The recording should only take around a maximum of 2 hours. Goodness knows how long it will take to actually stitch the footage together and make the video as I have never done this before, but hey it  looks like fun!

You would be also welcome to work on your film with me if you wish, I will most likely doing all of the post productions at Chime Creation Centre.

There it is… so if you don’t think it sounds like a load of old pretentious tosh and would like to sign up, please fill in the form below so that we can get groovin’.

There are two aspects of life: the first is that man is tuned by his surroundings, and the second is that man can tune himself in spite of his surroundings.
